Finland 108 years – Tampere filled with festive spirit

25.11.2025 Tampere will celebrate Finland's Independence Day on Saturday 6 December with a varied program. The traditional Independence Day celebration will fill the Central Square, with Finnish rock legend Yö taking to the stage. The event will culminate in the lighting of Moomin light installations. In addition, there will be a children's dance at Tampere Hall and a wreath laying ceremony at Kalevankangas. Admission to the events is free.

Chatty Parrots brings colour and interaction to Laikunlava - test the interactive video work on 27 November

19.11.2025 The City of Tampere wants to make Kirjastopuisto more inviting and bring warmth and joy to winter evenings. The result is Chatty Parrots, a rare interactive video installation where three talking parrots come to life in response to the movements of passersby. Come experience how technology and art can transform urban space — the installation will be on display for one evening only, on Thursday 27 November from 4 pm to 9 pm at Laikunlava.

Light Gallery 2025: Tove Jansson’s First Moomin Story as Light Art

22.10.2025 In honor of the Moomin 80th anniversary, Tampere Art Museum’s collection artist Tove Jansson has been chosen as the Light Gallery artist of 2025. The light art installation, projected onto the facades of central Tampere buildings, is titled The Moomins’ Journey Home. The illustrations have been selected from Jansson’s very first Moomin story. Light Gallery is part of the Tampere Festival of Light, opening 24 October 2025.

Children’s Night Bug Art Lights Up Tampere’s Festival of Light

22.10.2025 The enchanting world of nighttime insects comes alive this autumn as selected works from the Night Bugs children's drawing competition is unveiled as part of Tampere’s Festival of Light on Friday, October 24. Organized by the WeGenerate project and Children’s Cultural Center Rulla, the competition invited children aged 3–11 to imagine and illustrate the mysterious bugs that might inhabit a garden after dark.

What is Tampere Festival of Light?

Tampere Festival of Light is an annual festival celebrating the darkest season of the year. During the festival, Tampere city centre is illuminated with a collection of light art and projections. The first ever Tampere Festival of Light was organized in 1966, and it lasted three weeks. Today people are able to enjoy the lights throughout the dark fall and winter season, from late October until the beginning of January. The 60th Festival of Light takes place in Tampere city centre from 24 October 2025.
